MB BS, DM, FRCP
I have provided a general Respiratory Medicine service at Glenfield and Loughborough Hospitals as an NHS Consultant since 1995 and have been seeing private patients at Spire Leicester Hospital since 2006. Before that I was a Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at Nottingham City Hospital and a Clinical Fellow at McMaster University in Canada.
I have a particular interest in asthma, chronic pulmonary disease and chronic cough. I am an internationally renowned researcher in these areas and have played a lead role in developing three of the most promising emerging treatments.
I have published 220 scientific papers, including three of the 20 most cited papers in the field in the last 10 years. My main contribution has been to develop new methods to assess and treat airway inflammation and airway diseases.
I have been an honorary Professor of Medicine at Leicester University since April 2005, Chief Medical Advisor to Asthma UK since May 2008 and joint Editor of Thorax since 2010. In 2004 I became the second UK based clinician to deliver the annual Cournand lecture, an honour given by the most prominent respiratory researcher in Europe aged under 45.
