I am an experienced Senior Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, having held this post at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for 18 years. I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and specialist expertise in the assessment and care of patients with a wide range of lung conditions. I have established myself within the area as a respiratory specialist with a clear focus on patient care.

My expertise covers all aspects of respiratory medicine (all problems related to lungs) including asthma, COPD, bronchitis, cough, breathlessness, interstitial lung disorders, lung cancer, bronchiectasis, pleural disorders and sleep apnoea.
Furthermore, I have published on a range of respiratory disorders (over 120 articles) including national and international guidelines, as well as specialist respiratory books. My Respiratory Medicine expertise has been recognised through my many regional, national and international roles. I have been involved in work on national and international guidelines on the management of respiratory conditions.
I received my undergraduate medical training at the University of St Andrews and the University of Manchester. I then undertook my specialist training in Respiratory Medicine in Hull and St James's University Hospital, Leeds, during which time I held the prestigious Clinical Lecturer's position. In 2004, I completed a higher degree (MD) at the University of Hull, focusing my research on the treatment of cough, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and lung infection.
I am the Director of Medical Education at the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
In addition, to my clinical work, I am proud to be an Honorary Professor at the Hull York Medical School, University of Hull. Whilst working as a Respiratory Consultant, I have utilised my clinical expertise in the additional role of Training Programme Director for Respiratory Medicine in Yorkshire and the Humber, for 10 years, where I assumed responsibility for the training of respiratory specialists, in the area.
I am privileged to be the current chair of the Respiratory Medicine Specialty Advisory Committee, a national body responsible for training in Respiratory Medicine in the UK. In 2020, in recognition of my high-quality work, I was selected to the leadership role of Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians of London.
I am the current President of the Hull Medical Society.
I helped to shape the national strategies and standards in the treatment of lung diseases through my work at the British Thoracic Society Council, Educational and Training Committee and Professional Organisational Standards Committee.
I remain committed to charitable work, which focuses on supporting patients with lung diseases. I believe that listening to patients is vitally important and, to this end, I will always endeavour to take time to understand the patient's concerns, addressing my patients in an approachable and sympathetic manner and adopting the highest level of communication during my consultations.

I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children, walking our dog in the surrounding countryside. I play social tennis in Cottingham as well as local league table tennis. I like to unwind in the evenings by playing my electric guitar.
