I am a Consultant Cardiologist based at the University of Leicester NHS Glenfield Hospital, one of the national and international leading centres for specialised cardiology. I obtained my primary medical degree at the Charles University, Prague. I have been a trained cardiologist in the UK for over 25 years.
I have a wide practice covering whole clinical cardiology and extensive procedural experience as one of the highest volume operators in the fields of coronary angioplasty, stenting as well as structural heart interventions, such as, keyhole valve replacement and repair, closure of septal heart defects and treatment of atrial fibrillation complications. I am a worldwide pioneer and leader in the field of minimally invasive heart interventions (TAVI, LAA, mitral procedures).
I have a keen interest and expertise in interventional therapies preventing strokes. I am widely recognised worldwide as one of the leaders in the field of structural heart interventions, with numerous honorary appointments in several countries. As a Professor of Interventional Cardiology and the Lead of Specialised Cardiology, I support continuous innovation in the field of interventional therapies for a wide variety of heart conditions (I was awarded the title of the National NHS Innovator for 2009).
I lead in the European Society of Cardiology as Chair of the Stroke Council.
I am frequently invited to lead/supervise minimally invasive and complex heart procedures (TAVI) around the world, with extensive expertise I in many European and Asian countries and also in the USA. I speak English, German and Russian.
