MBBS, MD, FRCP (UK)
I am a Consultant Endocrinologist specialising in adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, sodium disorders, diabetes insipidus, male endocrinology, female endocrinology, and endocrine tumours. I see patients with the full range of endocrine conditions and am also a general physician.
I qualified in 1994 from the Royal London Hospital and trained as a specialist endocrinologist in London, where I also did my research MD before moving to Leicester.
My main research interests include pituitary and adrenal tumours, polycystic ovary syndrome, female hormone disorders, headache and the genetics of endocrine disease. I run a research programme at the University of Leicester looking at the role of circulating DNA in diagnosing endocrine tumours.
Among other past and present activities, I am Training Programme Director Diabetes and Endocrinology, Chair of the East Midlands Endocrine Society, Editor in Chief of the lead UK Endocrinology website ‘You and Your Hormones’, Clinical Committee and Public Engagement Committee for Society for Endocrinology (SfE). I am the media advisor for the SfE, having appeared on local BBC and national radio talking about a range of endocrine conditions and presenting several podcasts on endocrinology.
I have written numerous books and chapters relating to pituitary disorders, and I undertake international work in areas of pituitary endocrinology.
I am very active in under- and post-graduate education; I co-write the endocrinology chapter for the main medical school textbook (Kumar & Clarke) and am co-author of Endocrinology at a Glance. I am editor of the pituitary section of ‘EndoText’, a global online resource, and the education lead for endocrinology at Leicester Medical School. I give regular lectures locally, regionally and nationally, and co-wrote the UK undergraduate curriculum.
