MB BChir MA MD (Cantab) FRCS (Tr Orth)
I am an expert knee surgeon with more than 30 years’ experience in sports injuries, knee arthritis and knee replacement surgery, including 20 years as a specialist consultant. I achieve excellent results in comparison to national and regional data for both knee replacement surgery and ligament reconstruction and I am a key opinion leader in sports and knee arthritis surgery.
I graduated from Cambridge University in 1989, before returning to my native Leeds to commence my surgical training. Here I completed two years of surgical research which culminated in a MD higher degree. I then went on to embark on a six-year orthopaedic training programme based in Yorkshire which was enhanced by a one-year knee fellowship with a leading knee surgery clinic in Australia.
I manage all orthopaedic knee conditions, from those developing in children and adolescents, through sports injuries in athletes of all abilities (elite professionals to ‘weekend warriors’), to knee replacement and resurfacing procedures in patients with severe arthritis.
With several thousand partial knee resurfacing procedures completed, I work with the orthopaedic industry to develop and evaluate the latest treatments and techniques for sports and arthritis surgery.
In 2018, I was appointed Visiting Professor to the Leeds Beckett University Carnegie School of Sport in recognition of my work with sports injuries. Here I work with the medicine research/advisory team to develop a collaborative research programme.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Professor Nick London at Spire include:
