Prof Thozhukat Sathyapalan

As the Chair in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism and an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist in Hull, I have extensive expertise in managing complex endocrine and metabolic disorders, ensuring the delivery of expert, personalised care to my patients.

I completed my specialist training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General (Internal) Medicine in Aberdeen and the Yorkshire Deanery, followed by a postgraduate research fellowship at the University of Hull under Professor Stephen Atkin. Since joining the University of Hull and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Senior Lecturer in 2009, I became a Reader in 2012 and was appointed Chair in Endocrinology in 2016.

My clinical expertise includes managing thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pituitary disorders, as well as diabetes, obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). I am proudly known for my meticulous approach and ability to manage complex cases, providing personalised, patient-focused care informed by the latest medical advancements.

I have extensive experience in clinical trials and research in diabetes and endocrinology, with more than 380 peer-reviewed publications. My research has significantly advanced understanding and treatment of metabolic and endocrine disorders, shaping clinical practice and improving patient outcomes.

In addition, I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh and the American College of Physicians, and an active member of the British Endocrine Society, the American Endocrine Society, the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists, and the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society, ensuring I remain at the forefront of advancements in the field.
