In 2017, Spire Healthcare set up a compensation fund for victims of Ian Paterson, and this was administered by the two lead law firms Slater and Gordon and Thompsons Solicitors. This formed part of the £37 million-pound settlement agreed between the parties in September 2017.
In 2021, following the 2020 publication of the Independent Inquiry Report, Spire Healthcare voluntarily initiated a new fund for patients harmed by Ian Paterson.
Due to their experience and expertise with the first fund, Spire approached Slater and Gordon and Thompsons Solicitors and asked them to administer the new fund. Thompsons Solicitors and Slater and Gordon have the day-to-day role of administering the fund and managing the timely investigation of claims, independently from Spire Healthcare. Regulated processes are in place to ensure claims are managed appropriately.
The new fund enables compensation to victims without initiating court proceedings.
The fund's main objective is the swift, fair, and equitable compensation of Ian Paterson's victims. Spire Healthcare, Slater and Gordon, and Thompsons Solicitors are committed to putting Ian Paterson’s victims at the centre of this process and working together to support the victims and act in their best interests.
If you were a patient of Ian Paterson and would like to apply to have your case considered for compensation, you can make an application to the fund by contacting either of the two claimant law firms who are administering the fund:
