New outpatient and diagnostic centre opened at Spire Yale in Wrexham

- £9.5m investment project
- Continued expansion of Spire Yale delivers greater treatment choice and faster
access to healthcare for Welsh patients
A new £9.5m outpatient and diagnostic centre has been unveiled at Wrexham’s Spire Yale Hospital by Spire Healthcare CEO, Justin Ash. For people in North and Mid Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire, the opening of the new Chesney Court Imaging, Orthopaedic and Outpatient Centre will increase the number of patients the hospital can treat, expand the range of patient services available, and provide faster care for day case patients.
In addition to private GP services, Chesney Court’s outpatient and diagnostic centre offers state-of-the-art MRI, X-ray and ultrasound facilities, as well as orthopaedic and physiotherapy rooms. The Centre also includes nine consulting and treatment rooms. These new facilities will provide people with rapid access to orthopaedic, urology, ophthalmology, gynaecological, general surgery and ear, nose and throat surgery, as well as diagnostic services for cardiac disease and chronic and acute pain conditions.
Previously, the hospital’s MRI scanner was located in a mobile unit meaning that some patients with mobility issues had difficulty accessing it. Located within the new Centre, the scanner is now fully accessible for all.
The opening of Chesney Court will increase Spire Yale’s capacity, helping treat up to 20% more patients a year.
Through a mix of inpatient and outpatient services, this increases patient choice and in turn will help to address waiting lists in and around North Wales.
Chesney Court building work started in 2022, and entailed converting existing administrative buildings into the new Centre. Chesney Court is part of an ongoing £11.5m investment project at Spire Yale, which is also due to expand the hospital’s existing ward space from 18 beds to 24 to allow more patients to receive the overnight care they need.
Sue Jones, Hospital Director at Spire Yale Hospital, said: “Everyone connected to Spire Yale is incredibly proud of what we have created at Chesney Court. These new care facilities and the plans to expand capacity here in Wrexham will benefit patients across North Wales, and help us maintain the high standards in healthcare that patients have come to expect from Spire hospitals.
“We are here to make a positive difference to people’s lives, through the outstanding personalised care we provide. Our new facilities and our commitment to deliver even more patient choice will allow us to keep improving the experience for both our patients across Wales.”
Justin Ash, Spire Healthcare CEO, added: “I am proud of the team at Spire Yale not only for continuing to provide safe and effective care for their patients, but also for opening Chesney Court, which is an example of how Spire delivers excellent personal care in beautiful and modern spaces.”
