Spire Norwich Hospital has celebrated two colleagues receiving NHS England's Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Awards. Trudy Garriock, Specialist Breast Care Nurse, has received a gold CNO award, and Ngoni Kasanga, East of England Hub Pre-Operative Assessment Lead, has received a silver CNO award.

NHS England's Chief Nursing Officer Awards reward the significant and outstanding contribution made by nurses in England, and their exceptional contribution to nursing. These awards celebrate nurses who go above and beyond their everyday roles to provide excellent care, leadership and inspiration to their colleagues and patients.

Trudy Garriock has dedicated 54 years to nursing in Norfolk within the NHS and private healthcare, specialising in medicine, dermatology and surgery. Trudy currently leads Spire Norwich Hospital’s one-stop breast clinic - a dedicated breast care service, providing prompt assessment and diagnosis to those with concerns.

Michelle Briggs, Director of Clinical Services at Spire Norwich Hospital said: "Trudy is the epitome of what the nursing profession really is all about.  Her determination, dedication, and drive always to place the patient at the centre of what she does is such a wonderful representation of why she was born to do the job she does and dedicate her whole life to nursing.”

Ngoni Kasanga is highly regarded amongst his colleagues for his calm, methodical and nurturing way – a skill that is not easily achieved in all leaders. Ngoni has a passion for people – colleagues and patients, which shows in his determination to ensuring patients get the highest standard of safe and effective care via pre-operative assessment.

The awards were presented in person by Professor Lisa Grant, Spire Healthcare’s Group Clinical Director/Chief Nurse and CEO Justin Ash. During the awards ceremony a video message was streamed from Dame Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England, thanking Ngoni and Trudy for their dedication and hard work.

Tessa Frosdick, Interim Hospital Director at Spire Norwich Hospital said: "At Spire Norwich hospital patient care is at the heart of everything we do, we are incredibly proud that not only one, but two of our team members have been nationally recognised for their outstanding dedication to patient care. A fantastic achievement and a huge well done to Trudy and Ngoni on behalf of the whole hospital."
