Spire’s commitment to safety and quality

Patient safety and the quality of the care we provide is at the heart of everything we do at Spire Healthcare. We support this in many ways which include:

  • We have consistent safety standards across all our hospitals
  • There is a rigorous application process, for any consultant applying to practise in our hospitals
  • There is comprehensive oversight of the performance of consultants at every level of the organisation, from individual hospitals through to the Group Board. If there is a concern about an individual consultant, we are able to spot this early, and act quickly
  • We carry out a review of the work of all consultants practising in our hospitals at least every two years. This review takes place every year for consultants who work only in private healthcare
  • We encourage our staff, patients and consultants to speak up if they have any concerns. We have Freedom to Speak Up Guardians at every hospital, to whom people can speak confidentially
  • To help us monitor performance, we collect and analyse data across all our hospitals
  • We seek to learn from concerns that are raised and when things don’t go to plan, in a way that includes everyone involved, including patients
  • All cancer patients’ care is discussed by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians (MDT) to develop an appropriate treatment plan
  • 98% of Spire’s inspected hospitals are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC and its equivalents in Scotland and Wales

We will continue to be passionate about how care is provided in all our hospitals and we seek continually to look for ways to further improve.
