MB, ChB & MD
After completing Medical School in Liverpool, I undertook my specialist training in both Mersey and Manchester and during that time spent three years as a research fellow in reproductive medicine, before becoming the first doctor to undertake sub specialist training in reproductive Medicine in the North West.
I have been a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Countess of Chester for over 20 years, initially practicing both Obstetrics and Gynecology but with a special interest in fertility/miscarriage and reproductive hormones including menopause. I led the fertility service from first consultation to treatment and was responsible for introducing full IVF. I set up the recurrent miscarriage clinic as well as leading on menopause and was responsible for the introduction of specialised outpatient procedures, including outpatient hysteroscopy for the investigation and treatment of abnormal menstrual bleeding.
Whilst my primary interest and responsibility was fertility, I was responsible for the introduction of the outpatient management of menstrual issues using outpatient hysteroscopy. I specialise in laparoscopic / Keyhole surgery related to ovarian and tubal pathology and endometriosis . I have led the recurrent miscarriage service and have a particular interest in managing hormonal issues, particularly related to menopause and HRT. As a reproductive specialist, I also have expertise in hormonal issues such as PCOS and premenstrual disorders.
After 20 years as a consultant, I have stopped counting the number of surgeries performed in both my NHS and private practice. For most of my practice, alternatives to surgery can be discussed and treatment tailored to the patient's wishes. I particularly specialise now in all aspects of fertility care as well as minimal access surgery (hysteroscopy and laparoscopy).
I have been involved with training for many years and ran multiple courses as Lead Trainer for the British Fertility Society. I have been the Clinical Lead for Fertility for many years and was the Medical Director of 2 private IVF companies in the North west, as well as being the person responsible to the HFEA.
I have been the lead for clinical research for Women's & Children's Health at the Countess of Chester for nine years and have led and supervised more than 10 national and international research studies/trials.
