I am a high-volume Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Wrexham Maelor and Spire Yale Hospitals for more than five years. I specialise in minimal invasive hip and knee replacement surgery, enhanced recovery after surgery, revision hip and knee surgery and improved patient reported outcomes.
I am a fellowship trained surgeon in adult hip and knee reconstruction from Australia. I lead a well functioning 'day case' hip replacement service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital which was first of its kind in Wales. I am also Arthroplasty Lead at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Further details of service provided by myself can be found on my website.
I regularly perform more than 300 hip and knee joint replacements in a year both in NHS and private practice with excellent clinical results. I am a strong advocate of 'patient centred orthopaedic care' and have always believed in empowering my patients and follow the principles of 'patient knows best'. This is consistently reflected in excellent feedback from my patients. Based on these feedback I consistently received excellence awards from an independent patient feedback platform. This feedback can be accessed via www.iwantgreatcare.org/doctors/prof-ibrahim-malek
I believe that my patients are not mere anatomic specimens with a joint pathology. I take special care to fully understand all aspects of a patient’s life before making any recommendations which are highly personalised to each patient. This includes developing a thorough understanding of your expectation, concerns, personality and lifestyle. My main aim is to get the best possible outcome for you and make sure that you are satisfied with your experience.
To achieve excellent outcomes, I work closely with a team of highly-skilled professionals who are dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible across all sites where I practice. Our goal is to make your experience pleasant with a short hospital stay and a return to your chosen lifestyle at the soonest. Much like planning for a weekend away, surgery involves planning and preparation, the surgery itself and then post-operative recovery and rehabilitation. Each member of my team is dedicated to make your surgical experience as smooth as possible.
Teaching and training our next generation of doctors is my passion and I am a clinical and educational supervisor for trainees on Welsh Orthopaedic programme at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. I am also fully involved with training our allied health care staff via Wrexham University as a visiting professor. I am a Research Lead at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and have been a Principal Investigator for various national and international research projects.
