Dr Paul Kitchen

I studied medicine at Oxford University, during which time I completed an MA in physiological sciences in1998. I completed my clinical training at St Georges Hospital London and qualified in 1991. I undertook gastroenterology training at St Mark's Hospital Middlesex, Northwick Park Hospital, the Hammersmith Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and St Mary's Hospital London. I undertook research in Imperial College School of Medicine at the Hammersmith Campus, Cancer Research UK and St Mark's Hospital between October 1997 and May 2001. I have presented the results of this and other research nationally and internationally and was awarded his PhD in 2003 from the University of London.

I have wide experience in all aspects of gastroenterology including inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease/dyspepsia and coeliac disease. I have a special interest in endoscopy. I have developed my colonoscopy practice to a high standard and was accredited as a bowel cancer screener at Medway Hospital in 2012. I have a wide experience of general (internal) medicine. I have received a number of awards for clinical excellence. I was appointed Consultant Physician and gastroenterologist in 2003 at Medway Maritime Hospital and has taken a leading role in inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, endoscopy and bowel cancer screening.
