I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust in 2005 with an elective and trauma practice sub-specialising in shoulder surgery.
Since September 2023, I have been the lead consultant for elective orthopaedics at North Bristol NHS Trust.
My undergraduate medical training was undertaken at St Mary's Hospital (Imperial College) in London (1988-1993). I spent six months as a World Orthopaedic Concern volunteer in rural South Africa during 1997-8 before undertaking higher surgical training on the South West (North) rotation based in Bristol (1999-2005). My advanced surgical fellowship training for 1 year (2004) was at the Melbourne Shoulder and Elbow Clinic in Australia and the Cape Shoulder Institute in Cape Town, South Africa.
In 2006, I was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate of Medical Education from the University of Bristol and in 2008 became the postgraduate tutor for orthopaedic registrar teaching. For over 5 years from 2012, I was the Training Programme Director for the 60 strong registrar training rotation for the Severn Deanery of Health Education England South West. Between 2015-2022, I was a member of the Selection Design Group for national recruitment of orthopaedic registrars chairing the group for the last 3 years. Between 2012 and 2019, I chaired the South West and South Wales Shoulder & Elbow Group for case discussions and peer review. In 2017 I was appointed to the Specialty Advisory Committee for Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery acting as the liaison member for the Republic of Ireland until 2022.
I am involved in regular audit and quality improvement projects as well as a variety of research projects leading to publication.
