MBBS FRCS PhD
I am an experienced Consultant General Surgeon based in West Hertfordshire NHS Trust with a specialist interest in upper GI and minimally invasive surgery (keyhole surgery). My primary aim is to provide high-quality, patient-centred care that is tailored to the individual, backed by robust results and positive patient feedback.
By utilising minimally invasive techniques, such as laparoscopic surgery, my patients experience quicker recovery times, smaller incisions, and less post-operative discomfort.
As a Specialist Upper GI Surgeon I am able to offer laparoscopic cholecystectomies for gallstone related issues and anti-reflux procedures including hiatus hernia repairs and fundoplications. I also carry out upper GI endoscopies (camera test to view the stomach) to help better diagnose and manage patients with reflux disease.
In addition, I am also able to provide laparoscopic repair of abdominal wall, incisional and groin hernias, including inguinal and femoral hernias.
Through my practice as a NHS and private consultant, backed by a strong training programme, my portfolio of procedures to date includes:
Since becoming a consultant at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust, I have played a pivotal role in improving patient care and experience within the department. This has led to higher rates of same-day discharge after surgery; Now as Clinical Governance Lead, I strive to ensure all patients receive the safest and most effective care possible.
Following graduation from University College London Medical School in 2006, I completed the FRCS higher surgical training programme with a specialist interest in upper GI surgery, developing expertise in renowned UK hospitals. Post FRCS, I earned a prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of England Fellowship in Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery, gaining further skills in more complex and specialised procedures. In addition I received a PhD from Imperial College London resulting in a thesis exploring the reasons why some patients experience delays in cancer diagnosis.
In addition to my clinical work, I am deeply involved in medical education, teaching and mentoring junior doctors through Royal College of Surgeons-approved courses, helping to shape the next generation of surgeons. I am also a key figure at Brunel Medical School, guiding medical students as they progress through their training.
