My practice covers a full range of arthroscopic (keyhole) and open shoulder and elbow surgery including subacromial decompression, shoulder stabilisation for instability and dislocation, rotator cuff tendon repair, arthroscopic biceps tenodesis, shoulder replacement and upper limb trauma.
I also undertake a broad range of elbow procedures such as keyhole surgery, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection/surgical release for Tennis and Golfer’s elbow, ulnar nerve release and transposition. My practice also treats hand and wrist conditions such as Dupuytren’s contractures, carpal tunnel, trigger fingers, removal of lumps and fusion of small joints of the hand.
I have a special expertise in one of the latest arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder called “the superior capsular reconstruction” whereby a piece of human tissue called dermal allograft is used to replace the irreparable rotator cuff tendon. I adopted my own innovative technique in this procedure and presented my work at the international level. I have performed about 15 procedures in the NHS within the last 18 months with 80% success rate, which is in line with what has been reported worldwide.
I qualified from the Lebanese University Medical School in 2001 and hold an MD degree with a gold medal in the graduation thesis. I completed my basic surgical training in the East of England Deanery and later underwent a specialist training on the Mersey Deanery rotation. I developed an interest in upper limb surgery and undertook higher training at the internationally renowned Wrightington Upper Limb Unit. I subsequently pursued a one-year advanced training fellowship in shoulder surgery in Manchester.
I am currently the Lead for the “Enhanced Recovery Programme” at St Albans City Hospital (West Hertfordshire NHS Trust) which helps a speedy recovery from upper limb surgery.
In addition to my surgical qualifications, I have a BSc in biology and a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine. I have a keen interest in research and have published several articles (27 studies so far) in scientific journals and two book chapters, of which, one has been on shoulder arthroplasty in a major shoulder textbook. I presented research at national and international scientific meetings. I am a faculty member on the Wrightington basic science course for higher surgical trainees.
