Mr Jeremy Livingstone

My practice at Spire Bushey Hospital mirrors my NHS practice, focusing on gastrointestinal and abdominal problems. A particular emphasis of my private practice has been on hernia surgery, promoting the use of minimally invasive techniques for all forms of abdominal hernia. Most recently, I have been responsible for the development of a stand-alone hernia clinic within Spire Bushey Hospital.

I was involved in the very early development of minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques and have a very wide experience of its application, particularly in the field of gallbladder and hernia surgery. I estimate I have performed in excess of 3,000 gall bladder procedures.

I am happy to see all forms of gastrointestinal and hernia problems, no matter how complex. As one of the most longstanding general surgeons in the area, I pride myself on my depth of experience and pragmatic approach to complex problems. Over the years, I have built an excellent rapport with the local general practitioners and hope always to provide a high quality but personal service to each of my patients.

My main career interest has been in the field of bowel, stomach and oesophageal cancer and I was one of the early pioneers of the National Cancer Networks. I was instrumental in the development of the Regional Upper GI Cancer Centre based in Watford and am the Lead Clinician for this service.

I trained at King’s College and the Westminster Hospitals under Professors Harold Ellis and Christopher Wastell. I was appointed Consultant Surgeon to Mount Vernon Hospital and Watford General Hospital in 1996 and shortly afterwards commenced practice at Spire Bushey Hospital.

I am currently the Clinical Director of Surgery at Watford and have held a number of positions of responsibility in the past, including Chairman of the Medical Committee at Spire Bushey.
