MB ChB, FRCS, MD
I have been a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust for over 17 years, providing a range of general surgical services including keyhole gall bladder and hernia surgery. I carry out elective general surgical procedures but also provide an on-call service at the Trust which means I treat emergency patients, including complex bowel operations, abdominal injuries caused by trauma, gall bladder disease and vascular emergencies. My extensive experience enables me to provide a thorough and complete service for general surgery, which includes all areas of the abdomen.
At Spire Bushey Hospital, I provide a general surgical service including laparoscopic cholecystectomy (keyhole gall bladder removal), hernia repair, and general lumps and bumps. Alongside this, with my extensive experience in treating vascular disease (both arterial and venous), I provide a complete varicose vein service from simple thread veins treated by sclerotherapy in out-patients, to complex recurrent varicose veins, using a range of surgical techniques (Endovenous laser ablation, surgery, foam therapy) treated in theatres. I treat peripheral arterial disease, aortic aneurysms and carries out carotid surgery for stroke prevention.
Along with a colleague, I developed West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust's vascular and endo-vascular service over the last 15 years. This has now become one of the leading vascular centres in the region. Annually, my team and I see approximately 2,000 out-patients in the Trust and treat around 1,000 in-patients, carrying out 500 operations including 200 major operations in general and vascular surgery.
I pride myself in being kind and understanding, taking the time to understand patient's problems in detail. Specifically for varicose vein treatment, I lay out a plan of treatment customised for each leg of each patient, which may include different surgical techniques depending on the severity of the veins and the patient's expectations. I have a professional and gentle bedside manner that puts patients at ease. A key member of my team is my secretary Julie, who is easily contactable by phone and email. Julie is also highly experienced, having worked with me for over 10 years. Her knowledge and sympathetic approach is highly appreciated by patients.
