I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hips and knees. My practice focuses specifically on complex orthopaedic surgery. I receive referrals from colleagues and consultants from other hospitals for the management of difficult cases, particularly problems with previous hip and knee replacement surgery. I have been awarded five clinical excellence awards.

At Spire Bushey Hospital, I see and treat many orthopaedic conditions and fractures. My sub-specialty interests are hip and knee surgery including knee and hip replacement, partial knee replacement, arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), ligament reconstruction, complex revision joint replacements and patient-specific knee surgery.

I received specialist orthopaedic training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and subsequently spent a year in Australia on the Sydney Hip and Knee Surgeons' international fellowship. I provide a specialist trauma and orthopaedic service at West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, operating at Watford and St Albans Hospitals.

I take a holistic approach to my practice and ensure I take the time to explain things clearly in easy-to-understand terms and allow plenty of time for my patients to ask questions and discuss concerns. This allows patients to make the best treatment decisions possible.

I am also involved in research looking into the life-span of hip and knee replacements and the design of new implants. I continue to publish and present research at international meetings.

Q & A

Robotic assisted knee replacement surgery: Procedure and benefits

Mr Tim Waters, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, says robotic-assisted surgery allows him to place the knee implant with greater precision than ever before.

He explains that this is useful, especially in complex cases where it can be difficult for a surgeon to determine the best implant position, but with robotic help they know it is accurate as it could possibly be.
