Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist. My NHS practice is at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. I am an honorary clinical professor in the Division of Medicine at University College London. I trained at King's College London and completed my specialist training in both general medicine and rheumatology in the North Thames region. I have a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine. I am actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training, education and clinical research.
I provide a specialist service for inflammatory arthritis which includes a focus on up-to-date care and streamlines the management of complex patients. I developed a novel, weekly QIP MDT virtual biologic clinic, to facilitate patients access to biologics leading to improved standards of care, reducing treatment delays, integrating research and clinical practice and offering excellent training opportunity to maintain specialist knowledge on safe and effective prescribing.
I was awarded the Barts Health Innovation in Health awards runner up in 2018. I lead the AS Service which has been recognised in my previous trust by the BSR as an Emerging Best UK Practice. The current AS service that I lead is part of the NASS Aspiring to Excellence programme.
Following on from my two NIHR research recognition awards, I continue to be passionate about clinical research and I’m committed to continuing my involvement despite my busy clinical job with the aim of capturing research, funding and producing publications, and presenting at international meetings. I was promoted to Honorary Clinical Professor status in the Division of Medicine at University College of London.
I have participated in a large number of multi-national phase 3/4 national portfolio studies, which included me as a Chief Investigator. I continue to present the outcomes of a number of the studies at a national and international level. I was also extensively involved as a Principal Investigator in COVID research looking at new treatments for COVID. This included the national recovery study for which I recruited over 350 patients. I have extensively published in peer reviewed journals and have written chapters in medical textbooks.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and continue to actively participate in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. I hosted three diets every year of triple cycles of the MRCP PACES exam at WXH (examining 270 doctors /year) and was the first site in the country to run the pilot PACES 2020 exam. I am on the panel of Chairs of International examiners and a board member of the Clinical Exam Board and Scenario Editorial Committee of the MRCP PACES exam.
I have been a TV presenter of a live health show and I am actively involved in humanitarian work overseas. I recently appeared on the BBC Hospital Series in which they highlighted my involvement as a principal investigator with COVID research at the Royal Free London NHS Trust.
