Dr Douglas Maslin

Honorary Consultant Dermatologist

MPhil MB BChir (Cantab) MA (Hons) MRCP AFHEA

I graduated in medicine from Cambridge University in 2012 and performed my dermatology training at Addenbrooke's hospital with the excellent dermatology department, becoming a consultant in April 2023. During this period I carried out research on skin cancers, and was awarded a number of dermatology prizes and scholarship awards, including the Champion Prize for dermatology (University of Cambridge), two European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Scholarships, the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (DCTN) Fellowship and Neil Cox award, as well as British Association of Dermatology and British Photodermatology Group Scholarship awards.

I currently work as an honorary consultant at Addenbrooke's hospital; carrying out general adult dermatology clinics and skin operations; while also carrying out dermatology research. Here, I work with a skin focused pharmaceutical company helping to improve the awareness and understanding of certain skin diseases, and working on new treatments for people living with these difficult conditions. This research has led me to have numerous recent international publications and presentations within the fields of psoriasis, eczema and hand dermatitis.

In clinic, a key focus for me is to have excellent, clear and timely communication with my patients, aiming to provide patients with the information needed to help them understand their condition and make informed treatment decisions. I manage inflammatory skin diseases including psoriasis, eczema, hidradenitis suppurativa, hand dermatitis, rosacea and vitiligo. I treat viral, fungal and bacterial skin infections.

In addition, a main area of interest is in the use of dermoscopy to help the early and accurate diagnosis of skin conditions, particularly skin cancers. I think it is very important to perform thorough skin screening and mole checks in order to help the early detection and treatment of precancerous lesions and skin cancers, including basal cell cancer (BCC), squamous cell cancer (SCC), and melanoma.
