Surgery to correct the abnormal curvature of the spine.
Scoliosis is the abnormal curvature of the spine to one side. The curvature can be in any position of the spine however, it is more common in the middle (thoracic) or the bottom (lumbar) regions of the spine. Both adults and children can have surgery for the correction of Scoliosis.
In adulthood scoliosis may cause back pain, stooped posture and deteriorating mobility. Neurological symptoms may also be caused by scoliosis, such as pain, numbness, weakness, heaviness and tingling in the legs if there is any pressure on the spinal nerves. These symptoms may limit activity and may make walking difficult.
Children often have surgery for the correction of scoliosis to prevent the curve in the spine from increasing or because they are unhappy with the appearance of their spine.
If you decide to have surgery for the correction of scoliosis with us, you’ll be cared for by an experienced multidisciplinary team who are dedicated to your wellbeing.
