MA (Cantab), MB BChir, FRCP
I am a heart rhythm specialist based at the Regional Cardiac Centre in Morriston Hospital Swansea, providing tertiary services for a population of one million people.
Prior to my consultant appointment in 2009, I trained at the University Hospitals in Southampton and Bristol developing a clinical expertise in invasive cardiac rhythm management (ablation) and device implantation. I qualified as a doctor from the University of Cambridge in 1997.
My current practice involves the investigation of palpitations, syncope and of risk of sudden cardiac death, the management of AF and its associated stroke risk, implantation of pacemakers, ICDs and biventricular pacemakers (to treat heart failure) as well as the treatment of ablatable arrhythmias.
I specialise in the investigation and treatment of palpitations, arrhythmias, dizzy spells, blackouts, atrial fibrillation (AF) and risk of sudden death. This includes invasive treatment of arrhythmias with cardiac ablation, including SVT, Wolf Parkinson White (WPW) syndrome and atrial flutter. I also specialise in the implantation of cardiac devices, including pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICD), biventricular pacemakers (CRT) and implantable loop recorders (reveal devices).
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr James Barry at Spire include:
