Specialises in
I have been a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Menopause Lead for four years. I am a recognised FSRH and BMS menopause specialist and trainer. I am also a faculty registered trainer for contraception including coil and implant removal / fitting. I am one of a handful of clinicians who fit HRT implants. Contraception, sexual health and menopause are intertwined.
I specialise in contraception, sexual health and the menopause. My expertise allows me to consult with women in the perimenopause/menopause particularly with complex medical conditions, cancer survivors and women who are going through an early menopause. I also have an interest in managing low libido and genitourinary symptoms of the menopause. I have extensive experience in providing individualised HRT preparations for women who have not found the right treatment combination yet.
To date, I have fitted over 500 intrauterine coils and over 200 contraceptive implants.
I look after more than 700 patients within my NHS practice, and therefore have vast experience in menopause care. Women will experience the perimenopause / menopause in different ways and so their care must be individualised. I pride myself in giving women time to tell their story and to manage them holistically. I am heavily involved in education for healthcare professionals, industry and the general public.
I sit on an FSRH committee to develop the new postgraduate qualification for menopause care both at an entry level and advanced level.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also proud to be an honorary lecturer at Cardiff University. I lecture three times a year on the menopause and teach basic gynaecological examination skills. I am a co-lead author for a sexual health module within the undergraduate curriculum and examine medical students twice a year.
I am passionate at empowering women to make decisions over their reproductive and post reproductive health needs. I have worked with third sector organisations to set up menopause cafes within the community so women can obtain peer support. I have also been instrumental in setting up a postnatal contraception service within my health board.
