MBBS, FRCS, FRCS
My Cardio-thoracic training was undertaken in Cambridge, Swansea, Cardiff and Cleveland Clinic, Ohio USA which is the top Cardiac Centre in USA. I was appointed as a Consultant Cardio-thoracic Surgeon at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow and relocated to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff in 2010.
My clinical practice includes a challenging high risk mix of valvular, major aortic and coronary artery disease. I have had exemplary results in my practice as depicted by the National Institute of Cardiac Outcomes Research(NICOR) with a post operative risk adjusted mortality of 0.4% for the last three year analysis published in 2014. Prior to that the three year mortalities were 0.29% and 0% as published in 2013 and 2012. Theses results are available at SCTS.org/patients where in the Unit specific and surgeon specific mortalities are published. The patient and colleague feedback for revalidation have shown that all aspects of clinical care, communication etc were excellent and well above national averages.
The research work on gene therapy in myocardial infarction: Myocardial Regeneration in Ischaemic Cardiomyopathy won several awards and was shortlisted for the Walton Lillehei award at the American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS).
