Mr Jonathan Davies

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

MB BCh, FRCS, FRCS (Orth)

Specialises in

  • Hip replacement
  • Orthopaedics

In 2022 I retired from the NHS and was fortunate enough to join the Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence at Spire Cardiff Hospital where I now practise.

I specialise in hip and knee joint replacements but aside from aspiring to provide first class surgical expertise I also believe in a friendly holistic approach, getting to know my patients, putting them at ease and understanding their overall wellbeing.

I trained at the Welsh National School of Medicine where I won the Anatomy Undergraduate Anatomy Prize. After qualifying I was fortunate enough to be appointed by Mr D J Webster, Dean of the Medical School as his assistant junior doctor. Following this I was honoured to be invited back to the University as a junior lecturer and Assistant to Professor J D Lever at the Anatomy department where I was responsible for human dissection and teaching of medical and dental students. In 1993 I was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and soon afterwards joined the Welsh Higher Surgical Training Programme. I was then appointed as an assistant to the late and great Prof James Richardson at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt National Orthopaedic Centre. Following this, I was awarded AO Foundation Fellowships and spent time working at world leading orthopaedic hospitals in Vienna and Tampa, Florida. In 1999 I was elected a Fellow of The Royal College of Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeons.

In 2001 I was appointed as a Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. During my time there I was appointed as an Honorary Lecturer in charge of undergraduate medical student teaching. In addition, I was appointed as a postgraduate examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons.

During the course of my career, I have published 24 research papers and was bestowed the title Honorary Lecturer at The University of Wales in 2021.
