Specialises in

  • Hip replacement surgery
  • Knee replacement surgery
  • Knee arthroscopy surgery
  • Joint pain treatment

I have over 20 years’ experience delivering routine and complex orthopaedic procedures. Appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in South Wales in 2009, my specialist interest is in adult hip and knee replacement surgery. From the commencement of my surgical career, I was fascinated by joint replacement surgery. I structured my surgical training, particularly my senior placements, to achieve the very best exposure to this specialty. As a registrar I was based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, followed by a one-year international fellowship at one of the World’s most prestigious units, St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, working with pioneers in Joint Replacement Surgery.

Since my consultant appointment I have performed over 3,000 hip and knee replacements. This includes several hundred complex and revision procedures. I receive specialist referrals from local and regional colleagues and undertake some of the most challenging joint replacement cases. This extensive experience has resulted in my appointment as both the Lead Clinician for hip surgery at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health board and as their representative to the British Hip Society.

Throughout my career, my priority has been to provide and document the best possible outcomes for all patients receiving hip and knee replacement surgery under my care. My most recent relevant and high-profile publications are recorded in the ‘Research and Publications’ section below. This practice scrutiny ensures my standards are maintained at the very highest level, optimising each patient’s surgical outcome and minimising complications.

My work has resulted in over 40 international presentations, and I have written several textbook chapters. My results have been cited in surgical journals over 200 times which in turn has led to invitations to provide peer reviews for a variety of journals including The Lancet.

I have multiple ongoing local and national research projects, several of which in collaboration with the University of South Wales, Cardiff Metropolitan University and I remain an Honorary Clinical Teacher for Cardiff University.

Despite a love for travel and a passion to learn every aspect of orthopaedic surgery (from specialist units in both the UK and around the world), ultimately returning to my home of Wales was always my goal. I have always been a keen sports fan so I can now enjoy the international rugby tests at the Millennium Stadium, although time in North America has broadened my sporting horizons and I am now also an avid Toronto Blue Jays baseball fan.
