I started as a consultant in 1996 after a very broad training in gynaecology and infertility. I had a long apprenticeship in minimal access (keyhole) surgery covering all aspects. I am particularly interested in endometriosis surgery and excise of the disease. Often this surgery is very difficult and requires care and extreme patience if a good result is to be obtained with a low complication rate. I regularly attend international meetings and benchmark the Cardiff teams activity against the world leaders techniques.
Cardiff is currently recognised as a British Society for Gynecological Endoscopy Endometriosis Centre and we have a UK wide appointed senior trainee.
I offer hysterectomy by the vaginal route in the majority of cases (no scars) and am currently recognised by the AAGL as a tutor for this approach to hysterectomy.
I endeavor to treat fibroids conservatively removing them either with the hysteroscope or laparoscope.
Together with my colleague professor Amso I offer a service for laparoscopic reversal of sterilisation following the Charles Koh Technique.
I also have an interest in the psychological aspects of gynaecology including difficulties with intercourse. My main interest in pre-menstrual syndrome covers all aspects of management particularly in severe cases. I have helped to develop an online symptom tracking tool: www.timeformedcine.com
I try to offer a range of treatment options and involve the patient in her management plan, after she has gained an understanding of the benefits and disadvantages or risks of each potential treatment. I try to be objective and honest.

Interests outside medicine include DIY, plumbing and woodwork; I am often found underneath a car.
I am a keen sailor and am a member of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. I own a dingy and a share in a 30 footer Gatsby which races successfully in the CBYC series.
I obtained my private pilot's license.
I have three sons and a daughter: one son has followed me into medicine, one is an engineer, and one is reading physics. My daughter is a keen sailor and is in primary school.
