Virtual consultations:
I was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Cardiff in 2007. My practice is focused on hip and knee conditions, particularly treatment of hip and knee arthritis and as such, I'm a high volume joint replacement surgeon. I introduced the personalised knee replacement in Cardiff and performed the first knee replacement using this technique in Wales. I lecture and demonstrate to other consultants in the UK and Europe regarding this technique.
I'm a strong believer in the use of implants, with a good track record whilst allowing room for innovation. I've joined the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) and Beyond Compliance national committees to scrutinise the performance of both new and established implants utilised in the UK for joint replacement.
I regularly deliver presentations of my research and results at British Hip Society, British Association for Surgery of the Knee, British Orthopaedic Association and European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. I'm actively involved in projects with Cardiff University and Arthritis Research UK.
I train surgeons on the All-Wales specialist training scheme, visiting senior Fellows as well as student doctors. I interview, examine and teach students for Cardiff University. My specialist interests are enhanced or rapid recovery surgery. And I lead the focus group at University Hospital of Wales for enhanced recovery surgery, as well as publish and research on this topic.
