Virtual consultations:
I was appointed as a Consultant at the University Hospital Cardiff in February 2002. For approximately 60% of my working week I work in the field of general ENT. For the remainder, I sub-specialise in the field of head and neck oncology and specialist rhinology. I also maintain a very active role in clinical governance, research and education, and am currently the programme director for ENT training for Wales.
After graduating in Nottingham and completing a training programme in general practice, I pursued a career in ENT and trained in Cambridge and South Wales, including Cardiff. As a registrar, I developed a special interest in rhinology and spent a year in clinical research studying the physiology of nasal airflow, together with the effect of surgery on the nose, for which I was awarded the degree of Master of Philosophy. I also undertook an additional year of training in rhinology and advanced head and neck surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Australia.
