Specialises in
I have worked in the field of breast surgery for over 20 years and was appointed as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon in Cardiff and Vale Health Board in 2003 and appointed the Lead Surgeon in 2006. I have specialised in all aspects of breast cancer management and oncoplastic breast cancer surgery. I'm also actively involved in the Breast Cancer Screening for Wales. I have been the breast cancer lead for Wales since 2022 and have received an MBE for my services to breast cancer and Breast Centre charity.
I understand the sensitivity and compassion that’s needed for my patients who are dealing with extremely difficult situations. I've developed a calm attitude and listening skills, and learn from each case to improve my practice and develop my profession.
I work closely with Dr Philippa Young, Consultant Radiologist and together we provide a one stop triple assessment service for patients with breast-related problems at Spire Cardiff Hospital.
I treat about 150 new breast cancers every year. I also assess and treat benign breast conditions like harmless lumps in breast, nipple discharge, breast pain and male breast lumps. This long association with my patients has made me realise that breast cancer not only effects the patient, but the whole family and I understand that it's extremely important to appreciate the social impact of breast cancer. Thankfully most breast cancers are caught early, and are managed successfully.
I'm an Honorary Tutor at the Cardiff Medical school and am on the teaching faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where I teach medical law to surgical trainees.
I run the charity for the Cardiff and Vale Breast Centre and organise several fundraising events every year including a Gala Ball at the City Hall, Strictly Top Dancer event on lines of Strictly Come Dancing, Zumba evenings and ladies' evenings. I have ran the Cardiff 10k for my charity and took part as the amateur in the Strictly Top Dancer event (where I won the Glitter Ball).
