I was appointed as a Consultant at the University Hospital of Wales in August 2010.
I qualified in 1997 from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College in London and after concluding my basic surgical training completed an MD degree for research undertaken on rotator cuff pathology at the University of Oxford. My specialist orthopaedic training took place on the Severn training rotation with sub-specialty fellowship training at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.
I was awarded the Robert Jones Gold Medal by the British Orthopaedic Association, the Kessel prize, from the British Elbow and Shoulder Society on two consecutive years and the Henry Smith research scholarship from the Royal College of Surgeons.
My clinical interests include shoulder/elbow joint replacement surgery both primary and revision cases. I retain a keen interest in tendon disease following my research and have helped develop PRP therapy in Spire for elbow tendon conditions.
I am principle investigator for multicenter trails in the shoulder, which are currently in progress, together with directing upper limb research in the University Hospital in collaboration with Cardiff University.
Since my appointment I was awarded the highly sought after Mayo elbow fellowship from the British Elbow and Shoulder Society which has allowed me to travel over to the USA and work alongside Dr Shawn O’Driscoll, considered to be the world’s leading expert in elbow surgery.
