I am an Endometriosis Clinical Nurse Specialist CNS at the University Hospital of Wales and have been in this post since 2006. I am a member of a multidisciplinary team in a tertiary referral BSGE accredited centre providing specialist care in endometriosis.
I offer a clinic which enables you to get a greater understanding and awareness without physical examination, carrying out an in depth analysis of symptoms, an evaluation of impact and response of previous management options, assessment of current symptoms and concerns, development of a care plan and strategy to enable improved quality of life.
As part of my role I have developed skills to enhance the assessment and management of the multifactorial aspects of this condition and how it affects your quality of life. I am the Endometriosis CNS of the Spire multidisciplinary team which provides the only private BSGE accredited centre in Wales. I am involved in all aspects of care from diagnosis; medical and surgical management. As a BSGE accredited centre, I support the input of your symptoms and surgical details data to the database.
I have offered a self referral, GP or consultant referral, since 2007 in the NHS. This clinic was designed primarily to enable time to discuss all aspects and concerns of endometriosis as each person needed. Audit and service review has clearly identified the benefits to the individual for greater understanding, improved self management, control and quality of life.
I am a member of the Endometriosis Clinical Nurse Specialist British Society of Gynaecology Endoscopy (BSGE) subcommittee since 2016. I was the nurse lead for the Endometriosis Task and Finish Group charged by the Welsh assembly to review service provision and access in Wales. I am a member of Strategy Advisory Group (London) to review endometriosis patient experience in England and Wales.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mrs Liz Bruen at Spire include:
Gynaecology
COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire Cardiff Hospital.

Registered Nurse
Britsh Society Gynaecology Laparoscopy
European Society Gynaecology Endoscopy
Through my role as an Endometriosis CNS I have instigated many changes in practice to improve the women's quality of life and access to service.
I was the lead nurse on the 2018 Task and Finish group created by Welsh Government to assess current endometriosis service provision, and identify any issues that may be affecting girls and women satisfaction and access to service.
I am currently a member of NCEPOD: Endometriosis Study Advisory Group which will analyse current access and service provision for all with endometriosis in England and Wales.
I am currently a medical advisor for Endometriosis UK.
Endometriosis and Pelvic Clinical Nurse Specialist; Nurse Sonographer; Nurse Hysteroscopist; Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical Assistant.
I am family focused and am lucky to have lovely relationships with my children, brothers and sisters. My life is very focused around my dog, Cass, who kindly lets me live with him, my motorhome, Flo, travelling to muddy fields and listening to live music. I am fortunate to have a great friend network who although they may not share my taste in music will tolerate it with grace. I walk every day aiming for the magic 10,000 steps and love to work out in the gym but equally enjoy cooking and eating, particularly in my garden.
