I have been a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Spire Cheshire Hospital for 24 years, and work in the NHS at Warrington and Halton Hospitals.

I have been Clinical Director of Surgery at Warrington and Halton Hospital for six years and latterly Associate Medical Director for Planned Care for two years. I am President-elect for the North West Society of Surgeons and current Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Cheshire Hospital.

I work full time as a General Surgeon at Warrington and Halton Hospital, and have an interest on colorectal and emergency surgery. I remain on the general surgical on call rota there.

At Spire Cheshire, my main interests are in elective surgery, notably hernias and gallbladders. I also see proctology patients - haemorrhoids, fistulae, fissures and pilonidal disease. I perform regular upper and lower GI endoscopies and am fully JAG accredited.

I have a clinic Wednesday AM and operate Friday AM.

I married Nicola (a GP in Altrincham) in May 2000. I enjoy golf and tennis and still play 1st XI cricket in the Cheshire league.

Mr Mark Tighe is Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Cheshire Hospital. Their role is to provide senior professional advice to the Hospital Director and Director of Clinical Services in order to support effective medical governance and oversight. They are paid £14,000 per annum for this role and are also entitled to receive the following fees for the provision of additional ad hoc services: (i) £750 for chairing a Professional Review Committee; (ii) £200 per hour for attendance at regulatory or other national body meeting (capped at £500); (iii) £500 for each annual medical appraisal undertaken for a doctor designating to Spire for the purposes of revalidation; (iv) £1,000 per annum for undertaking the role of governance lead in addition to MAC Chair; and (v) £200 per hour for the preparation of an independent report (up to a maximum of £500 per report unless otherwise agreed due to complexity) upon request by the Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer.
