I am a general orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery and sports medicine. I undertake primary and revision hip and knee joint replacements including unicompartmental knee replacements, knee arthroscopic surgery and knee osteotomies for management of osteoarthritis.
On average I carry out over 250 total hip and total knee replacements per annum, including revision hip and knee replacements. On average I perform over 100 knee arthroscopies per annum in my NHS and private practice.
I trained as a medical graduate at University of Delhi (India) in 1994 and also completed my postgraduate degree (MS orth) in orthopaedic surgery at University of Delhi in 1988. I came to the UK and underwent further training in general surgery and orthopaedic surgery from 1988 until 2000, culminating in obtaining further postgraduate qualifications (FRCS Ed, FRCS trauma and orthopaedics) from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
I completed my training and was awarded a 'completion of orthopaedic training' certificate in 2000. Then in 2001, I was appointed as a substantive consultant in the NHS. During this time I completed specialty fellowships in arthroplasty surgery and sports medicine at reputed centres of orthopaedic and arthritic hospitals in Toronto and Wrightington Hospital in the UK.
I am the lead for the National Hip Fracture Database, advancing quality and the National Joint Register. As well as head of trauma in my NHS Trust.
I am a keen educator and deliver curriculum teaching to fourth and fifth year medical students as well as F1 and F2 doctors (junior doctors) and specialist registrars in orthopaedics. I also regularly deliver training workshops to local GP's and health education seminars for the general public.
