Reduces feelings of hunger and capacity to eat by shrinking your stomach.
At Spire Cheshire Hospital, our consultants can carry out sleeve gastrectomy (gastric sleeve surgery) to help you lose weight if being severely obese is affecting your health.
Gastric sleeve surgery is when part of your stomach is removed to reduce its size, which limits the quantity you can eat and reduces your appetite.

At Spire Cheshire Hospital, we provide high-quality treatments for our patients and are extremely proud to be rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for our private hospital care. Our team of experienced bariatric surgeons offer gastric sleeve surgery to help you lose weight. They work with an expert aftercare team who can provide support and advice as you recover and help you to adjust to your new lifestyle.
You’ll have all the facilities you’d expect from a private hospital in a clean, comfortable environment.
The average weight loss following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is 70% excess weight loss. For example, a patient of 150kg with an ideal weight of 70kg will lose 70% of their excess weight (80kg) or 56kg. Their weight after treatment will be 94kg. The final weight loss can vary according to your motivation, change of diet habits and exercise.
After your operation, you’ll have expert aftercare from our team of nurses and dietitians.
It’s a common operation to have done privately, and our inclusive prices and access to payment plans make it easy and more affordable, even if you don’t have medical insurance.

You’ll have a chance to ask your consultant any questions you may have. Some people find it helps to bring a list of questions with them and make notes as they go along.
If you decide to go ahead with gastric sleeve surgery, you’ll also meet a dietitian and a weight loss nurse so they can further assess if surgery is right for you. You’ll also need to have a pre-operative assessment which may include:

Here’s what will happen on the day of your operation:
If you’ve come with a friend or family member, they’re welcome to wait in our reception area while you have your operation.
Surgery takes one to two hours. You’ll stay with us overnight after your operation.
During your stay, you’ll be given painkillers for any discomfort. Your nursing team will make sure you’re comfortable with everything you need.
We’ll have follow-up appointments with you after you leave hospital. These will be for two years after your surgery, to check on your weight loss progress. You'll receive continuous support from a dietitian throughout this time.
