LVO FRCS(Ed.) FRCOG
I qualified as a Doctor from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1982 and trained in both General Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. I was awarded the FRCS Diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1987 and the MRCOG Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in 1991. The focus of my training was in Gynaecological Surgery, including General Gynaecology, Gynaecological Oncology and Minimal Access Surgery. I was appointed a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Frimley Park Hospital in 1998 as lead Consultant in Gynaecological Cancer.
My interest covers a wide range of gynaecological conditions, including; heavy menstrual bleeding, uterine prolapse, pelvic pain and endometriosis, cervical disease, especially abnormal cervical smears, gynaecological cancers, ovarian cysts, post menopausal bleeding, vulval disorders and menopausal disorders. I have a particular interest in surgical treatment of endometriosis, vaginal hysterectomy for heavy bleeding and prolapse and risk reducing surgery for familial ovarian cancer.
I am an experienced laparoscopic surgeon and one of the first surgeons in the UK to fulfil the recognition requirements in gynaecological robotic surgery. I have over 25 years of experience in Colposcopy and am particularly interested in conservative management of young women with abnormal cervical smears.
I have over 17 years of experience as a substantive NHS consultant and over 30 years experience in gynaecological practice. During that time I have performed many hundreds of procedures including; abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy (with removal of the ovaries as necessary), laparoscopic procedures (intermediate and major surgery), Colposcopy for cervical and vulval disorders and endometrial ablation for heavy periods. My experience includes over 100 major robotic operations and over 50 trans-vaginal procedures for removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries.
My current research interests are in risk reducing surgery for patients at risk of ovarian cancer and I have devised a technique of removal of the ovaries by trans-vaginal surgery which minimises the risk of the procedure and reduces recovery time.
I am the lead gynaecologist for the specialist vulval clinic, held jointly with a Consultant Dermatologist) at Frimley Park.
I am currently the Chief of Service for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. This is a senior managerial position in the Trust and I am also a member of the Trust Executive Board. I am responsible for the safe and effective delivery of Obstetric and Gynaecological services across three hospitals; Frimley Park, Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals. This resulted from the acquisition of the Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Trust by Frimley Park NHS Trust in October 2014.
Prior to this, I was a Clinical Director for Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Frimley Park for five years. I am also a lead Consultant for marketing across Frimley Health. This role is primarily to promote good relations between Frimley Health and local GPs, mainly through the medium of education.

As a husband and the father of four (now adult) children, my main interests have centred around my family.
We have travelled extensively, to Europe, the USA and the Far East and enjoyed memorable holidays.
I am also a keen rugby supporter and was a rugby coach to his son and one of his daughters when they were younger. My proud ‘claim to fame’ is that he coached his daughter’s team to the Girls’ under 14 National Seven a Side championship.
When time allows, I like to keep fit by running and walking. I also enjoys theatre and the arts and listen to music and enjoy reading and cooking for relaxation.
