Spire Claremont Hospital invests £2.6m to open a minor ops suite benefitting NHS and private patients
12 September 2024
A £2.6m state-of-the-art minor operations suite has been formally opened at Spire Claremont Hospital in August, delivering shorter waiting times and a wider range of treatments to NHS and private patients across Sheffield and the surrounding areas.
The new suite mainly accommodates minor operations that do not require general anaesthetic. Treatments for orthopaedic, spinal, ophthalmic, dermatological, cosmetic, and ENT conditions can be performed here, including carpel tunnel release, spinal injections, cataracts surgery, skin biopsies and excision of lesions. It is expected to facilitate over 5,000 procedures annually across the hospital. The freed-up space from moving minor operations from the main surgical theatres to the new suite allows the hospital to perform almost 800 more complex procedures every year. The eight recovery bays in the new minor treatment suite also help to release more space in the ward, providing the necessary space for patients requiring longer stays. This £2.6m investment is aimed to increase the number of NHS and private patients the hospital can care for by 50 percent, also reflecting Spire Healthcare’s commitment to reducing NHS waiting lists.
The investment will make the patient’s journey smoother and more efficient, from check-in, to their procedure, through to recovery and discharge a few hours later. It has significantly shortened the waiting times for people needing complex surgery, and more patients with minor conditions are being seen faster.
Tim Smith, Hospital Director at Spire Claremont Hospital, said, “The opening of our new minor operating suite demonstrates Spire Healthcare’s continuing commitment to make a positive difference to people’s lives in Sheffield through outstanding personalised care. By increasing our capacity to deliver more minor and complex procedures, we will be reducing waiting times and improving the overall patient experience. Our investment into this new facility will not only benefit our private patients, but also support the NHS by alleviating pressure on local healthcare services. We are proud to be an integrated healthcare partner for people living in Sheffield and its surrounding areas.”
Members of Spire Claremont Hospital’s theatre team were joined by Spire’s Chief Operating Officer John Forrest, Chief Financial Officer Harbant Samra and Chief Commercial Officer Peter Corfield to officially open the new minor operations suite.
