I am a Consultant ENT Surgeon. I base my professional advice and opinions on my extensive clinical experience and relevant published research findings. I have a Certificate of Revalidation with the General Medical Council until 2025 and am fully compliant with the process of appraisal and continuing professional development.
I qualified Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours at Leeds University in 1981 and underwent ENT training in Leeds, Bristol and Sheffield gaining Fellowships to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (1986) and England (1987). I obtained a Master of Surgery Degree for Higher Research in to the optimal treatment of Deafness/Glue Ear in Children from Bristol University in 1991 and hold a Diploma in Laryngology and Otology at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
I have full time clinical practice in both the NHS and private sectors with NHS patients being assessed and treated through ‘Choose and Book’ and in Peak District clinics in association with General Practitioner commissioning consortia. In the NHS I work at The Peak Medical Practice, Hope Valley, Derbyshire and Thornbrook Medical Practice, Thornbrook Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith.
I have been Programme Director for the North Trent ENT Training Rotation and have previously been a Lead Clinician for Head & Neck Cancer at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. I am a Member of the Court of Examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the DOHNS, MRCS and former DLO examinations and an external adviser for the NHS Ombudsman.
I am a member of the Invited Review Panel, Division of Professional Standards and Regulation, Royal College of Surgeons of England 2009 and a Panel Member and one of the chief Invigilating Examiners to the Professional Linguistic Assessment Board at the General Medical Council in London and Manchester.
I undertake medico-legal work at Consultant level since and following the introduction of the Civil Justice Reforms I have acted as a joint expert witness when asked to do so. I am a Law Society checked expert no.4023 and have undergone appropriate training in medico-legal assessment and report writing.
