MBBS, PhD, BSc, MSc, FRCS
I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield. In December 2022 I was bestowed the title of Hunterian Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons.
I specialise in diagnostics and surgical treatments, including robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer (PSA discussions, prostate biopsy and including partial kidney removal). I am also an expert in diagnosis and management of bladder (including cystoscopy) and testicular cancer. I also perform robotic pyeloplasty (kidney/ureter reconstruction).
I am the only urologist in the private sector within Sheffield offering greenlight prostatectomy for benign prostate enlargement. I also implement traditional operations for large prostates such as TURP (transurethral resection).
I perform all core surgeries for urological problems such as circumcisions, hydrocoele repair, cyst removals and male sterilisation (vasectomy).
I carry out approximately 100 major and minor urological cases each year, and also have performed over 200 robotic procedures.
I have been in clinical practice since graduating from University College London (UCL) in 2008, and completed a Wellcome Trust funded PhD in 2016. More recently, I visited Melbourne, Australia, where I completed a fellowship sponsored by the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and NIHR in robotic surgery and urological oncology. I am the regional uro-oncology MDT lead and also run the foundation doctor programme for urology, the departmental education programme and the prostate cancer pathway development. I am the principal investigator on a number of NIHR portfolio clinical trials investigating the use of robotics in minimally invasive surgery, patient outcome measures and cancer screening.
I am a co-applicant on grants exceeding 3 million. I have published 60 research papers in high impact journals and have an international reputation for my understanding of cancer epidemiology.
I have previously sat on the European Prostate Cancer guidelines panel (seven years service). Currently I am a member of the South Yorkshire Cancer Alliance group interacting with key parties from surrounding hospitals and GP.
