I have been practising as a Consultant Paediatrician in Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Neurodisability for 14 years. Prior to that, I have practised within the NHS, in the UK, for 25 years (since 1995).
I specialise in the assessment and management of children with Autism/ASD, ADHD, Dyspraxia, Developmental Delay, Learning Disability, Emotional and Behavioural Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, children with schooling difficulties and syndromic disorders such as Down Syndrome.
I graduated in India in 1992, coming First in the 2nd Year and Final Year of Medicine, at University.
While working at Leicester Royal Infirmary, I gained DCH and MRCP qualifications (1996-99). I then worked at Queen's Hospital and Royal London Hospital, training to be an Intensivist (1999-2000). During this specialist training, my daughter was diagnosed with a disability. This personal experience stimulated my interest in pursuing Childhood Neurodisability as a career.
Subsequently, I went on to receive training in Child Neuro-Developmental Disorders at the Royal Free Hospital in London (2001-05). I undertook Diploma Studies in Paediatric Neurodisability from Sheffield (2004-05). I then worked as a Consultant Community Paediatrician with an interest in Neurodisability at Oxford University Hospitals NHS FT, for over 13 years (2005-2019).
I have been a Hon Senior Clinical Lecturer in Paediatrics at the University of Oxford, since 2007. I have served in various roles within the NHS, such as Consultant Appraiser, Clinical Governance Lead, Educational Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor and RCPCH AAC Rep.
I take an active interest in teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates. I have been a Course Director for Child Developmental Courses in Oxford, London and Abroad.
I am the Editor of the Oxford Specialist Handbook in Community Paediatrics, published by Oxford University Press. This handbook, with emphasis on Neurodevelopment and Neurodisability, is widely used by doctors in the UK, Europe and is sold worldwide.
