I qualified as a medical doctor in 1998, graduating from Ain Shams Medical School, Cairo, Egypt. I undertook a residency programme in urology and was appointed to a university lectureship post due to outstanding academic achievements which included research projects on urinary tract infections in children. Further research work on erectile dysfunction in men followed and I was awarded my masters degree from the same university.
I was successfully granted the fellowship of European Board in Urology in 2008 then the Royal College of Surgeons of England fellowship in Urology in 2012. I attended post training fellowship on brachytherapy treatment for prostate cancer at Saint Luke’s cancer institute in Guildford, followed by a year as a senior uro-oncology fellow in the University Hospital of South Manchester where I was trained on advanced renal and pelvic cancer surgery. I was then granted a two year fellowship programme on upper urinary tract laparoscopy and robotic surgery in the specialised renal cancer unit in Frimley Park Hospital.
My main surgical interest is specialised laparoscopic and open surgery for renal cancer including cryotherapy minimally invasive technique. I have also developed my experience in diagnostic prostate cancer procedures including template biopsy and MRI-targeted approach. I have a special interest in the focal prostate cancer treatment using both HIFU and Cryoablative techniques and also the GreenLight laser therapy for benign enlargement of prostate. More recently I shared in introducing the new minimally invasive steam therapy for prostate enlargement (Rezūm) to the UK.
My special academic interest has seen me published and presented in over 70 peer reviewed publications and podium presentations in both national and international meetings. I am also an overseas supervisor for PhD candidates and international speaker in various urological meetings.
