Mr James Duncan

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

BMBS, BMedSci (Hons), FRCS (T&O)

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, particularly joint replacement procedures including complex revision ("re-do") hip and knee replacements.

I initially trained in orthopaedic surgery in Oxford, completing my specialist programme in 2022. Following this I completed two international fellowships in Zurich, Switzerland and Sydney, Australia, in order to further specialise in hip and knee surgery. It was during these international fellowships that I first trained in the use of computer assisted and robotic joint replacement surgery, which has enabled me to continue this practice in the UK.

I specialise in robotic joint replacements, which I perform in both the NHS and private sector, and am also the lead for 'ambulatory arthroplasty', which aims to enhance patient recovery following joint replacement surgery.

I am the lead surgeon for ‘ambulatory’ joint replacements at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, which aims to enhance the recovery of patients undergoing hip and knee surgery, allowing them to return to their own homes faster, often on the day of surgery, thereby improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.
