Wrinkles are caused by everyday factors like sun damage, smoking and facial expressions including laughing or frowning. As you get older the elasticity of your skin reduces too, and wrinkles naturally form - injectable procedures can help to reduce wrinkles for younger looking skin.

The injections help to smooth out the wrinkles without the need for surgery, and can often be an alternative to a brow lift or a facelift.

There are a number of different injectable treatments that can reduce wrinkles, either used on their own or in combination with other techniques; your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise you on what treatment would be most suitable for the outcome you are looking to achieve.

Wrinkle relaxing injections usually take around 15 minutes, depending on the amount and extent of wrinkles being treated; there is no recovery time so you are able to leave hospital the same day. The injections can take a week or two to take effect.

This procedure can be used to create fuller lips or fill out lines around the mouth, nose and cheeks to create a subtle, smoother appearance.

A skin-friendly gel is injected into deep wrinkles to lift and smooth out the skin. Whereas wrinkle treatments affect the muscles that cause lines, dermal fillers work by filling the wrinkles or creases to add volume to the skin.

This treatment usually takes around 30 minutes, though a larger area may take longer. The treatment may cause mild bruising or swelling that can last up to 24 hours.

Thread veins are very fine veins that are often visible on the cheeks, nose and legs; they are common and come in a variety of colours.

If it is something that you are unhappy with them thread vein treatment is a suitable answer to the problem. 

There are a number of different types of thread vein treatment and your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise you on which is the best one depending on what your desired outcome is. These treatments can be very effective, but as it takes time for the veins to break down, it may be a few weeks before the results are fully apparent. A course of treatment may be recommended to achieve the best results.

This procedure reduces the amount of loose skin on the arms, often women refer to it as "bingo wings" or "bat wings", and the aim of this surgery is to give women back their confidence to wear short sleeved clothing again.

The procedure is designed for those with loose or sagging skin on their upper arms, the surgery is known as arm reduction, brachioplasty or arm lift surgery - the aim is to give you slimmer, more shapely and youthful looking upper arms.

The procedure involves removal of excess skin and fat from the upper arm through incisions made on the inner and under surface of the arm, sometimes from the armpit, and can be as low as the elbow.  The remaining skin is then stretched, and stitched back together, the result being smoother, and slimmer upper arms.

Breast enlargement, also known as breast augmentation, uses breast implants to help women achieve larger, fuller and firmer breasts - depending on the desired outcome. This surgery is an option for many women who are unhappy for any number of reasons, or if their breasts have changed over time, after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss.

Implants come in a variety of shapes, sizes and firmness, your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise you on which implant would achieve the result that you are looking for.

Cheek implants

A permanent way to improve your 'bone structure' is to have cheek implants, these will help if you feel your cheeks are too flat or that they are out of proportion to the rest of your face. The implants will make your cheekbones feel fuller and higher.

The procedure can be done with no visible scarring, often the implant can be put into your cheek through an incision in the mouth where your cheek joins your upper gum, although sometimes the implant may be inserted through a cut in the lower eyelid. The implant aims to build on your existing cheek with an implant placed over the top of your cheekbone.

The surgery can be performed under local anaesthetic which means you are awake for the procedure but the whole area is numb and you should feel nothing. This means that you are able to have the surgery as a day case and can leave the same day.

Chin implants

To improve your jawline, or if you feel that you have a receding chin line, or it is out of proportion to the rest of your face then a chin implant could be the ideal solution.

Receding chins are built out by inserting an implant over the chin bone. The implant is usually inserted through an incision made inside your mouth between your lower lip and gum. This technique means there will be no visible scarring. Sometimes the implant may be inserted through a cut in the natural crease of your chin.

The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic which means you are asleep for the procedure and will require you spending a night or two in hospital afterwards.

Some people may feel that their ears stick out too much, are too large, or they are unhappy about their shape. Ear pinning, also known as pinnaplasty, can solve this problem by re-shaping your ears and making them a less prominent feature.

During the surgery, the cosmetic surgeon makes cuts behind your ears, and then the cartilage can be folded, removed or re-shaped, depending on the desired effect afterward. The ear is then held in the new position with stitches.

The surgery lasts between one to two hours and is performed under local anaesthetic, so you are awake during the procedure, with the area being numb. This means you are able to have the surgery as a day-case and return home the same day. The surgery is also available with general anaesthetic where you will be asleep for the procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise you on the best option for you.

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a great solution to droopy eyelids or bags under your eyes, the surgery can smooth out these imperfections and give you a more alert, youthful appearance.  This procedure can be carried out on upper, lower or both eyelids.

Eyelid surgery is not the answer to remove crow's feet or to change the colour of dark shadows under the eyes, for solutions to these problems you would be better suited to anti-wrinkle treatment by injection or brow lifts.

Blepharoplasty takes around one or two hours, or less if you’re having just the upper or lower eyelid done. It may be performed as a day-case, but an overnight stay in hospital is sometimes required. The operation can be performed under general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure, or under local anaesthetic where the area around your eyes will be numb but you will be awake.

Most women have naturally protruding nipples, but for some women, one or both of their nipples can be inverted, the best procedure to correct this is inverted nipple correction surgery.

Inverted nipples often occur during puberty and are related to short milk ducts, if this is the case then there is unlikely to be a medical problem. However, if the problem has occurred more recently you should see your GP straight away as there may be an underlying medical reason for the change.

The surgery for nipple correction is relatively simple. The surgeon will cut around the nipple and then re-stitch it so that the nipple protrudes. Scarring is usually minimal, though breastfeeding cannot be guaranteed after the procedure because the milk ducts will usually have been cut during surgery and will no longer be intact.

You can request general anaesthetic, where you are asleep if that would make you feel more comfortable. With local anaesthetic the procedure can be done as a day case, meaning you are not required to stay overnight in the hospital.

Nose re-shaping, also known as rhinoplasty, is a procedure to change the size or shape of your nose. You may feel your nose is too big, small, narrow or wide, or maybe is crooked or has a bump in it - nose re-shaping can change all of these.

There are two main types of rhinoplasty – reduction rhinoplasty to make the nose smaller, and augmentation rhinoplasty to give the nose more bulk or make it larger. Your cosmetic surgeon will be able to advise what each procedure entails.

Both operations last between 60 and 90 minutes and are usually carried out under general anaesthetic, so you will be asleep throughout the procedure. You will usually be able to return home the same day, though if you have had a bone graft performed, you may need to stay in hospital for one or two nights.
