Having graduated in Aberdeen I then trained in Gastroenterology and General Medicine in Edinburgh and London. I am fully trained in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy and also possess expertise in the area of short bowel syndrome and nutritional therapies of gastrointestinal problems.
I work in Spire Shawfair Park's endoscopy suite which holds JAG accreditation.
I diagnose and treat a large number of people with a wide variety of gastrointestinal complaints affecting the whole of the gastrointestinal tract including the investigation and treatment of unintended weight loss. I have focussed my interests on the care of people who have Inflammatory Bowel Disease, particularly those who also have nutritional problems, and people with Coeliac disease.
Drawing on this clinical and diagnostic experience, along with my colleagues in Edinburgh Gastroenterology, I aim to deliver the highest quality of care to people with digestive or gastrointestinal problems.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Alan Shand at Spire include:

Endoscopy
Other treatments
Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh

My three young children keep me busy in my free time. I also enjoy running, golf and listening to music.
