I am a Consultant Medical Oncologist, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer and NRS Research Clinician at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre and the University of Edinburgh. My clinical work involves treatment of patients with neoadjuvant, adjuvant and palliative therapies for breast cancer, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and endocrine (hormone) therapy. I always aim to provide a holistic, compassionate, patient-centred and evidence-based approach to care.
Patients leaving consultations feeling completely confident they have had sufficient time to discuss and fully understand their diagnosis, and the risks and benefits of any treatment, is critically important to me. I am happy to see patients for second opinions and offer all new patient consultations for a minimum of an hour.
Following completion of specialist training in Edinburgh, I was a clinical research fellow in early phase clinical trials at the world-renowned Institute of Cancer Research Drug Development Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, before returning to Scotland to take up a consultant post in 2012. I currently run a large practice in NHS Fife as well as a research clinic in Edinburgh.
I am also the Lead Clinician for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) for NHS Fife, an editorial board member for European Medical Journal – Cancer and the American Medical Journal - Oncology, the Scotland representative for the Association of Cancer Physicians Executive Committee and an educational supervisor for trainee doctors in oncology.
I am also a founding faculty member for the Cancer Biology and Precision Oncology MSc course at the University of Edinburgh, a St Andrews medical school tutor, a Scottish Academy External Advisor for Medical Oncology, the Royal College representative on the Melville Trust Scientific Advisory Committee and an NHS Lothian consultant appraiser.
I have been an author on many peer-reviewed papers including in several high profile journals (JAMA, Clinical Cancer Research and Journal of Clinical Oncology among others) and many presentations at major UK and international oncology meetings, and an invited speaker at several national meetings and educational events.
Finally, I was privileged to be a Royal College of Physicians tutor on an oncology training programme in East Africa, teaching in Rwanda and Tanzania in recent years. I remain passionate about teaching students and healthcare professionals globally and was nominated for a Women in Oncology global award in 2024.

Clinical research in cancer medicine is vital to making progress; I am principal investigator on several breast cancer clinical trials of novel agents and was the UK chief investigator for the DESTINY BREAST-09 study. I currently lead the Edinburgh/South East Scotland breast cancer clinical trials team, overseeing the trial portfolio.
My own research interests include the development of new agents for breast cancer, patients with hereditary BRCA1/2 mutations, reducing inequalities in cancer outcomes, management of endocrine therapy toxicity and the management of elderly patients and those with complex co-morbidities. I have recently been successful as a co-applicant in a grant application for a study for patients with breast cancer and sleep disturbance.
Out of work, I am married with two young children and enjoy travelling, skiing, socialising with friends and good food.
