After I qualified from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London I had extensive ear, nose and throat (ENT) training in London and East Anglia, including an Otology Fellowship in Cambridge (2008) and a Balance Fellowship in St Louis (2018). I was appointed an ENT consultant in Edinburgh in 2010.
I was responsible for setting up NHS Lothian’s Specialist Multidisciplinary Balance Service and this experience in vertigo also benefits my private patients.
I am privileged to receive tertiary referrals for complex ear surgery from surgeons throughout Scotland and perform approximately 150 complex ear cases per year. I am the only surgeon in the region performing stapedectomy and middle ear implants.
We pioneered combining hearing implant surgery with ear reconstruction in the UK within the Scottish National Service and I was the first surgeon in the UK to perform the Bonebridge Hearing Implant in 2012 which was featured in a BBC Scotland documentary.
I run international courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to teach ear surgery and balance medicine to other doctors.
Surgical procedures undertaken include: intratympanic therapy, hearing implants, ossiculoplasty, stapedectomy, mastoid surgery, myringoplasty, grommet insertion, septoplasty, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), micro-laryngoscopy, oesophagoscopy, adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy.
I only see children over three years old.
