Specialises in
Currently I am appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Clinical Director in Edinburgh with responsibility for adult and paediatric services at St John's Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. In my NHS practice, I have a specialist interest in cancer and trauma reconstruction (including head, neck and breast), facial reanimation and paediatric plastic surgery and burns. In the private sector, I have an interest in a broad range of aesthetic surgery including breast augmentation and reduction, uplifts, rhinoplasty, body contouring surgery, abdominoplasty and facial cosmetic surgery.
I graduated from Edinburgh University with medical and science degrees and a distinction in surgery. I started postgraduate surgical training in Edinburgh before moving to Canada to undertake a two year research fellowship at the University of Toronto, leading to the award of an MD degree for my thesis. Subsequently, I completed specialist training in plastic and reconstructive surgery both in Edinburgh and Newcastle.
I then returned to Canada to complete the renowned clinical fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery and breast surgery at the Toronto University Health Network and later followed this up with a clinical aesthetic fellowship in Los Angeles County and San Diego, California.
I have published many original articles in medical journals, presented at national and international conferences and have written two book chapters for surgical texts.
