I was appointed as a Consultant in Edinburgh in 2021 and also have the role of Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
My consultant work encompasses all fields within adult ear, nose and throat surgery. I have had highly specialised training in nasal and sinus disease (rhinology). I am an expert in treating patients suffering from nasal blockage, nasal discharge, rhinitis, smell disturbance, smell loss, sinusitis, nasal allergy, nasal trauma, nasal reconstruction and those requiring nose re-shaping for improving both nasal function and appearance (septorhinoplasty/rhinoplasty).
I am also specialised in treating nasal tumours, extended applications of endoscopic sinus surgery and regularly collaborate with my colleagues in neurosurgery and ophthalmology for complex endoscopic skull base cases.
I graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School with a Bachelors in Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2010. I subsequently undertook my basic surgical training in the East Midlands region before moving to Scotland for my specialist ENT training. I had the opportunity of working in major regional centres including Edinburgh and Dundee. I was also privileged to undertake a full 12 months training as the Skull Base Fellow whilst working in Edinburgh. I achieved my Certificate of Completion of Surgical Training in Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in 2020.
I undertook a further period of post-certification subspecialist fellowship training in the Wessex Deanery between 2020 and 2021. My focus was in the fields of endoscopic skull base surgery based in Southampton and rhinology, facial plastic surgery, septorhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery based in centres across the region.
Alongside my clinical work, I am a keen educator – teaching medical students, trainee surgeons and consultant colleagues on a number of courses across Scotland and the rest of the UK. I am passionate about teaching my subspecialist interests in rhinology, endoscopic skull base surgery, septorhinoplasty and facial plastic surgery.
I concurrently have a keen clinical research interest and have several ongoing projects with the team that I support and mentor.
My current academic interests lie in functional considerations in septorhinoplasty, ergonomics in endoscopic skull base surgery and novel transorbital endoscopic approaches to the skull base – which the Edinburgh ENT/neurosurgical departments were the first to undertake in Scotland.
