Procedures offered for breast enlargement at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals

At Spire Edinburgh Hospitals, we offer a range of breast implant types, sizes and shapes. Your consultant will help you choose the best options for you.

Types of implant:

  • Silicone gel (soft or firm) – for a more natural feel that’s less likely to wrinkle, with Polyurethane-coated implants less likely to rotate
  • Saline – may be more prone to wrinkling than silicone but lower risk of complications if they rupture

Shapes available:

  • Teardrop shape – you can choose the height and width separately, so there’s more flexibility with the shape
  • Round shape – a greater volume at the top
  • Projection – choose how much the implant sticks out to give a subtle or a more obvious look

Your consultations

Once you’ve made an enquiry, we can quickly arrange for you to meet one of our team of experienced cosmetic surgeons. You’ll usually be offered an appointment within a few days.

During your consultations you’ll have the chance to talk about the type of breast enlargement surgery you’d like, as well as the range of implants available. Your consultant will ask you about your medical history and we may carry out a pre-operative assessment.

During your consultations, you’ll be able to discuss:

  • Other alternatives to breast surgery that might be a better option, such as breast uplift
  • What’s involved when you have surgery
  • The kind of anaesthetic you’ll have
  • Possible risks or complications
  • Any tests that need to be carried out before your procedure

Your consultant will be able to answer any questions you may have about your surgery and its results, but there’s no pressure to make a decision. Even if you feel certain about what you want to do next, you’ll have plenty of time to reflect after your appointment during the cooling-off period.

Breast enlargement surgery: your procedure

You may be able to go home on the same day as your operation. If you do need to stay overnight, you'll have one of our en-suite private rooms.

Your consultant will explain to you beforehand how long you’re likely to stay and whether you need to bring anything.

If you’ve come with a friend or family member, they’re welcome to wait in our lounge while you have your operation.

Here’s what will happen after you arrive for your breast enlargement surgery:

  • You’ll meet your surgery team and anaesthetist
  • You’ll be given a general anaesthetic so you’ll be asleep for the operation
  • Once it’s taken effect, your surgeon will make an incision then carry out the operation to insert your new breast implants
  • Your operation will take around 60–90 minutes
